This sort of "I can't live without a man" behavior needs to stop. She even jokes, "Well, I belong to you, don't I?" What makes me upset is how Ayla falls for the trap so many novels featuring a female protagonist fall for: Ayla gives up EVERYTHING for Jondalar. What makes Ayla more irritating in my book isn't her Mary Sue qualities (although, damn, they were enough to make me want to hit something). Both of them are Mary Sue checkmarks in my book. Or the "I have to save someone no matter the cost" (but don't worry-unlike in "Clan of the Cave Bear" where Ayla wasn't able to save someone, Ayla never has that problem here!). If Ayla has a flaw, it is the "I don't realize how beautiful I am" curse (yes, even after all this time with Jondalar and the bajillion men saying how gorgeous she is, Ayla still thinks she is "Big and Ugly"). Ayla is perfect in every way every man wants to tumble in the furs with her, she is the most gorgeous woman ANYONE has ever seen (and EVERYONE will let you know it), everything she does is perfect and wonderful, she can win over people who hate the Clan and anyone associated with it, she can heal a rape victim with a few sympathetic words, she can save a village from Femi-Nazis but come out without having shed ANY blood, she teaches people how to sew (a skill that apparently NO ONE ELSE is capable of learning), and she can get ANY tribe to almost immediately want to have her join their clan. At the end of the book, Ayla and Jondalar are the same vapid, 1-Dimensional Mary Sue and Marty Stu they were when they started this book. By the time the character reaches the end of the journey, something should have been learned, characters should grow, knowledge should be gained. A good journey story will have the CHARACTER undergo a change, some sort of trial, in the midst of the external journey. I think a good journey story is more than just Character X has to get to Point B. Journey stories are inherently tough and not everyone is going to like them. That said, this book is something that I definitely couldn't call "Mammoth Hunters" and that is BORING. We don't have any stupid Big Misunderstandings, we get to meet a lot of new peoples and customs, and journey stories are some of my favorites. In some ways, this book is actually an improvement over the (in my opinion) dismal "Mammoth Hunters". The book becomes just a volume of people going here and there, bumping into random tribes for the hell of it, and studying in excruciatingly textbook detail the flora, fauna, and biosphere. This book is a perfect example of what happens when you write a novel and don't have a plot to fill it. NOTE: I listened to this on audiobook and am a super lazy person, so I am not even bothering with getting all the new names of peoples and places correct. In the meantime, Ayla and Jondalar cross rivers, have lots of sex, chase after their damn animals, and talk about where babies come from (actually, it's Jondalar doing a lot of the wondering where babies come from-Ayla must have FINALLY come to grips with it). They stumble upon Mammoths having sex, the Sharmudoi and the Ramudoi who almost immediately induct Ayla into their clan, a group of Femi-Nazis (aka, what many conservatives think Feminists are), a couple of Clan people, the Losadunai, and Jondalar's sister's people (whoever the hell they are). Summary: Ayla and Jondalar head out to his homeland (because while Ayla is supposed to sacrifice her newfound family, the Mamutoi, Jondalar can whine and complain to get what he wants). Oh, you wanted me to be a bit more specific? Okay. Summary: Ayla and Jondalar travel to his homeland. UPDATED June 8, 2021: The Provincial Court of Alberta has ruled that the constitutional rights of Canadian pastor James Coates were not violated when he received a Public Health Act (PHA) ticket for holding worship services in December 2020. It is reported that three GraceLife Church congregants and pastor James Coates are the filers, asking the court “to strike down the public health restrictions.” The court filing additionally requests immediate return to the building and disallowing police to interfere with worship services. The church has continued to meet in secret locations to avoid law enforcement closures and fines. Police monitored the property and even got into scuffles when protestors, who were not GraceLife Church members, showed their disapproval for the restriction enforcement. GraceLife Church’s property and building were seized by police on April 7, 2021, and barricaded by temporary fences after worshipers repeatedly broke Alberta’s COVID-19 restrictions. This comes just days after the Provincial Court of Alberta ruled that GraceLife Church’s pastor James Coates’ rights were not violated when he was ticketed for disregarding the Public Health Act when he held worship services in December of last year. UPDATED June 11, 2021: GraceLife Church has filed with the court asking to immediately return to their building. Thank you all for your continued prayers, I will keep you all posted ❤️…Now we are just praying the same for Tim Stephens!” We wait eagerly on the Lord to be back in our facility. On top of that, there are versions for so many different operating systems, and it is possible that many of them will develop glitches and bugs. Unfortunately, due to the fact that this is free, Open Source software, it isn’t updated that regularly. Unusually for free software, VLC doesn’t have any ads, so unlike some other video players you don’t have to worry about annoying popups or banner ads while you are just trying to enjoy a video. There are also a few different playback options, such as altering the EQ of the sound or even altering the filters on the video to display differently. VLC supports a variety of different file formats, and on top of that, it allows you to upload different subtitle files. You can even access the source code if you wish. The environments look fantastic, the story is decent, and you meet some interesting characters. Though it's derivative, it's good entertainment. As you rummage around in boxes hidden on each planet, you can unlock new poncho colours, new spaceship paintjobs and-brilliantly for Star Wars fans-bits of lightsaber that you can use to customise your weapon. Customisation options are simply rewards for exploring. There are no loot boxes or microtransactions or games-as-service promotions. It's also a self-contained single player game, which is a novelty in 2019. Fallen Order mixes up its interactions just enough to keep up a reassuring pace. The game segues smoothly between a jumping section, a fight, a wall-run, a puzzle, another fight. It's a very old fashioned third person action game in many respects. There's a nice variety to traversal otherwise, however, and it's particularly fun to force-pull vines into your hands as you sail across yawning gaps. Cal mostly wall-runs, jumps, and swims his way through the maps, but sometimes-too often-you'll find yourself scooting down a massive bendy slide, which Cal rides like a surfer. I started to feel a bit silly as I force-pushed giant gold balls into switches in an ancient Jedi temple. The levels can be quite contrived at points. This is another good decision-it's hard to feel like a cool Jedi if you keep getting completely lost. It serves the fantasy, which if you're a Star Wars fan is likely enough reason to play the game. If you time your left bumper press well, you can parry enemies and send blaster fire hurtling right back at the trooper shooting you. You hold left bumper to block incoming blaster fire and most enemy melee attacks. You can combo together light strikes by tapping the square/X button, and activate special attacks with the triangle/Y button. It cracks to life when you press left on the D-pad. It's one of the best weapons in fiction, and Respawn has done a great job of emulating the look and feel of the Jedi's signature weapon. Agents of the dark side are after it too, of course, and so begins a breezy, entertaining third-person action adventure with a fantastic lightsaber. Cal's mission, once he realises he should probably get off the junk planet and follow his destiny, is to seize a 'holocron' data cache that contains a grand list of every force-sensitive child in the galaxy. The story is set between the prequel trilogy of films and Episode 4: A New Hope, after the Sith has enacted Order 66 and turned the Republic's clone army against the Jedi. There's a red one, a green one, an ice one, and so on-common videogame fare. If you concentrate on main story missions, this is about a 20-hour adventure set across a cluster of themed planets.
